Although winter is often viewed as a very pleasurable season, it is not as kind to our bodies. During this period, it becomes extremely easy for your skin to become irritated, itchy, and dry, which can be painful or uncomfortable. So, to help combat these issues, we have prepared four of the best tips to help you care for your skin during the winter.
Top Tips for Winter Skin Care
Keep Your Moisturizer Handy
During winter, your skin will need much more moisturizing to remain healthy and supple. Although there are a variety of products to choose from, we recommend that you go for an oil-based moisturizer. Such products are great at locking in all the necessary hydrating oils that your skin requires to stay fresh.
Generally, you will want to make sure that you moisturize immediately after washing, paying attention to all parts of your body, including your feet and hands. This should help in protecting your skin from dryness or irritation. We also suggest that you invest in a little hand cream that you can easily carry around as you will find it extremely useful after washing your hands in public.
Update Your Facial Routine
While many toners and cleansers work great during other seasons, your skin may find them extremely harsh during the winter months. This is because most cleansers are filled with alcohol, which can increase the dryness of your skin. So, as the winter approaches, be sure to look through the cleansers that make up your skincare routine and put away any that have high-alcohol content. Instead, use a cream-based cleanser as they are great at removing dirt while also retaining moisture.
Choose the Right Clothes
This is one of our top tips for healthy skin during the winter, as it is one of the easiest to get wrong. Unfortunately, many of the fabrics that are used for cold-protective clothing, such as wool, are made of rough materials. This means that they can easily irritate your skin or cause you to itch excessively.
However, this does not mean that these materials should not be worn. Instead, we suggest that you wear a base layer of light clothing that is breathable and made of soft materials. This should allow you to slip on heavier clothing afterward without much issue.
Don’t Shower for Too Long
It is easily tempting to stay longer than usual in your steamy, hot shower during the winter. However, our general advice is that you stay away from this as it is not great for the skin. Essentially, when you take hot, long showers, all the oils that your body requires are removed, which causes your skin to become dehydrated.
So, we tend to suggest that you keep your showers short and sweet. This means that you shouldn’t spend more than ten minutes showering and, for maximum effect, you should also stick to lukewarm water. In most cases, if you find your hands turning red while showering, that’s a sign that it’s too hot and you may want to reduce the temperature.
